I bought the Tokina 72mm WIde Angle lens for $69 on eBay not expecting much, but having found some on the other inexpensive Japanese made conversions lenses to be nearly as sharp as more expensive conversion lenses from Canon and Century, and was pleasantly surprised.

A real .5X conversion would be more a fish-eye view. This lens does not seem to be .5x magnification, but adds about 20 to 25% more view with little distortion which is just right for what I needed.

As large, wide angle conversion lenses are easily dropped, damaged I prefer not to pack an $800 lens for "Run and Gun" and rugged travel shoots.

Primarily I have used this conversion lens on a Canon XH-A1 and Sony HDR-Z1U Professional HDV Camcorder that use a standard 72mm filter size. Both camcorders feature pretty wide and high quality lenses but for occasional situations where more field of view is needed it can give you enough extra view to make the difference .
